Ghana Halts Power Sector Restructuring Amid Strong Opposition

Accra, Ghana – The government of Ghana has paused the consideration of four key bills aimed at restructuring the country’s power sector in response to strong opposition from stakeholders. In a letter to Parliament, publicly disclosed on Wednesday, the Ministry of Energy requested the suspension of the Ghana Thermal Authority Bill, 2024; Ghana Hydro Authority Bill, 2024; Ghana Power Distribution Authority Bill, 2024; and the Ghana Energy Regulatory Authority Bill, 2024, to allow further consultations with critical energy sector players.
