CASABLANCA, MOROCCOStellantis NV has opened its first vehicle dismantling centre for the Middle East and Africa, deepening Morocco’s emergence as Africa’s automotive powerhouse while intensifying pressure on South Africa’s struggling car industry.

The €1.6 million ($1.9 million) facility, inaugurated on Wednesday in Casablanca’s Aïn Sebaâ industrial zone, is designed to process up to 10,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. Operated by SUSTAINera, Stellantis’s circular economy unit, the site becomes the group’s third dismantling centre globally after Turin and São Paulo — and its first on the African continent.
