ACCRA, GHANA — Ghana says it has completed its IMF bailout programme, marking the end of one of the country’s most turbulent economic rescue periods in decades.
In a landmark announcement issued on Friday, May 15, 2026, the government declared the successful conclusion of its Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme with the International Monetary Fund — a programme that, at its lowest point, came to symbolise the fragility of Ghana’s public finances, a collapsing currency, and deepening public anxiety over economic survival.
