The IMF said Africa department chief Abebe Selassie will retire in May 2026, ending a decade that reshaped the Fund’s engagement with sub-Saharan Africa.

The International Monetary Fund announced Wednesday that Selassie, director of its African Department, plans to retire on May 1, 2026, concluding 10 years at the helm of its fastest-growing regional portfolio.
