  • Ghana mandates local gold refining from February 2026
  • Move aims to capture value as global gold prices hit records

ACCRA, GHANAGhana will begin refining part of its gold domestically before export from February, a policy shift aimed at capturing more value as global prices surge to record highs.

Africa’s largest gold producer has signed a strategic agreement with Gold Coast Refinery Limited to refine one metric tonne of gold per week locally starting February 1, 2026. The move marks a decisive break from Ghana’s long-standing reliance on exporting raw or semi-processed gold to offshore refineries.
