Burkina Faso hits record gold output as reforms reshape mining sector

  • State oversight and artisanal formalisation drive sector turnaround

 

OUAGADOUGOU, BURKINA FASOBurkina Faso produced a record 94 tonnes of gold in 2025, official figures show, underscoring the impact of sweeping mining-sector reforms and lifting expectations for exports, fiscal revenues and investor confidence.

The output, announced by the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, represents an increase of more than 30 tonnes from 2024 and places the Sahelian country among West Africa’s fastest-growing gold producers.
