South Africa joins Afreximbank, unlocking $8bn push for intra-African trade

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICASouth Africa has formally joined the African Export-Import Bank, unlocking a new $8bn programme aimed at boosting industrial growth, regional supply chains and intra-African trade.

The accession makes South Africa the 54th member of African Export-Import Bank after Parliament approved the Bank’s Establishment Agreement in 2025, bringing Africa’s most industrialised economy into Afreximbank’s core continental operations.
