HARARE, ZIMBABWE – Zimbabwe is preparing to inaugurate Africa’s first lithium sulphate plant, signalling a decisive shift from exporting raw minerals to capturing higher value in the global clean energy supply chain.
The facility, located at Huayou’s Bikita Mine, is being developed by Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) in partnership with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co, one of China’s largest battery materials producers. The plant has entered the equipment commissioning phase after attracting about $500m in investment, placing operational start-up within reach.
