ACCRA, GHANA – Ghana’s mobile money transactions surged to GHS3.6tn ($313bn) between January and October 2025, reinforcing the country’s position as one of Africa’s fastest-growing digital payments markets, central bank data showed.
Figures released by the Bank of Ghana after its recent Monetary Policy Committee meeting show that the growth builds on an already strong performance in 2024, when total mobile money transactions reached GHS3.01tn ($261.8bn), a 56.8% jump from GHS1.92tn ($167bn) in 2023. The central bank said the data underline Ghana’s deepening reliance on mobile money for everyday financial transactions, from retail purchases to peer-to-peer transfers.
