BISSAU, GUINEA-BISSAUUmaro Sissoco Embaló, the president of Guinea-Bissau, was arrested by armed men after gunfire erupted near the presidential palace, government sources said on Wednesday.

Witnesses in the capital, Bissau, reported hearing bursts of gunfire at about 1300 GMT, though it was not immediately clear who was behind the shooting. The violence came just three days after a tense presidential election in which the main opposition candidate had been disqualified.
