Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has announced that 27 existing mining contracts will be “studied, reviewed, and renegotiated,” fueling concerns among investors in Senegal’s delicate business environment. Sonko, alongside President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, pledged during their campaign for the upcoming March presidential election to review contracts signed by previous administrations, arguing that Senegal’s mineral wealth has not translated into tangible benefits for its citizens.
