Senegal has begun repaying part of its domestic arrears with an initial disbursement of 132 billion CFA francs ($220 million), offering much-needed relief to local businesses struggling under months of unpaid government bills. The move, announced by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, is designed to restore confidence with both the domestic private sector and international creditors following the revelation of significant off-balance-sheet liabilities and the suspension of the country’s IMF programme.
