Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo party candidate, Daniel Chapo, has been declared the winner of the contested October 9 elections, securing about 70% of the vote, according to the country’s National Electoral Commission. His closest rival, Venancio Mondlane of the PODEMOS party, garnered 20%, but opposition groups have fiercely disputed the results, alleging widespread vote rigging and other electoral malpractices.
