  • Nine new projects deepen Egypt’s industrial pivot
  • SCZone still dwarfed by lost canal revenues

CAIRO, EGYPTEgypt is doubling down on industrialisation along the Suez Canal, betting billions that factories—not ships—will anchor its next phase of growth.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Thursday inaugurated nine new industrial projects in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, pushing total investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) beyond $6.5bn. The additions bring the number of operational factories in the zone to 204, with another 173 under construction, according to official figures.
