CAIRO, EGYPTEgypt has stepped up its energy security drive by sealing major gas agreements with Israel and Qatar, seeking to meet rising electricity demand while positioning itself as a regional energy hub.

The latest deal with Qatar follows last year’s record-breaking gas agreement with Israel — the largest of its kind in the region — and comes as Egypt grapples with tightening domestic gas supplies and mounting pressure on its power sector.
