  • Gold production fell to 47.7 tonnes in 2024, continuing a downward trend since 2021.
  • Authorities cite insecurity and terrorism as key drivers of the decline.

Gold production in Burkina Faso has dropped for the third consecutive year, declining to 47.7 tonnes in 2024 from 67.09 tonnes in 2021, according to the Ministry of Mines. Experts warn that this trend poses a significant threat to the country’s economy, where gold accounts for 67.1% of export value and contributes 14.5% of GDP.
