  • Food and beverages surge ahead of Ramadan

 

CAIRO, EGYPT — Egypt’s factory and mining output contracted in January, as sharp declines in key industrial sectors outweighed strong gains in food and beverage production.

Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries index, excluding oil, fell by 2.0% to 125.89 in January from 128.47 in December, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
