ACCRA, GHANA – Ghana’s former vice president Mahamudu Bawumia won the presidential primary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party on Saturday, reclaiming the ticket for the 2028 elections after a humiliating loss in 2024.

Final results declared by the party showed Bawumia securing 110,643 votes, representing 56.48% of total valid ballots cast, comfortably ahead of four rivals in a fiercely contested race marked by internal divisions and sharp exchanges . A total of 195,901 valid votes were recorded, with 196,462 ballots cast nationwide, according to the declaration signed at the party’s national headquarters in Accra.
