MTN Mobile Money lending surges in Uganda as digital credit booms

  • Borrowers more than double to over eight million in 2025
  • Loan values jump to nearly 2.5 trillion shillings

 

KAMPALA, UGANDAMTN Mobile Money recorded sharp growth in mobile lending in 2025, with borrowers and loan values surging as its MoMo Advance product gained traction, company executives in Uganda said.

The number of unique borrowers more than doubled to over eight million in the year ended December 2025, up from 3.5 million in 2024, according to MTN Mobile Money.
