ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – Ethiopia has launched construction of a $12bn mega airport near Addis Ababa, signalling an aggressive infrastructure drive to anchor long-term growth and regional influence.
Just months after inaugurating the $5bn Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Africa’s largest hydroelectric power project, Ethiopia is pressing ahead with another infrastructure statement of intent. Construction has begun on Bishoftu International Airport, designed to be the largest aviation hub on the continent and among the biggest globally.
