Lagos, Nigeria – A nationwide blackout, closed government offices, hospitals, and even classrooms marked the first day of an indefinite strike declared by Nigeria’s labour unions on Monday, pressing their demand for a new minimum wage. Talks between workers and the government have stalled as both sides struggle to reach an agreement on an acceptable new minimum wage.
