KINSHASA, CONGO – A $15mn photovoltaic solar project is under development to power one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s main mining basins, marking a significant shift toward cleaner and more reliable energy.

The mining sector, a pillar of the Congolese economy and a major global supplier of critical minerals, has long struggled with unreliable electricity supply. Developers say the new project could reduce outages, cut operating costs and improve environmental performance, but analysts warn that deep structural challenges remain.
