Nigerian President Tinubu Consolidates Power with Key Security Appointments

  • Tinubu’s appointments raise concerns about regional and ethnic balancing

Abuja, Nigeria – Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has further consolidated his grip on power by appointing loyalists to key security positions, replacing appointees of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. The latest reshuffle sees Adeola Ajayi, an ethnic Yoruba from Tinubu’s southwest home region, take over as head of the State Security Services (SSS), also known as the Department of State Services, replacing Yusuf Bichi.
