KAMPALA, UGANDA – Ugandan President-elect Yoweri Museveni’s disputed election victory has triggered fresh concern over democratic backsliding across East Africa.

Museveni was declared the winner of Uganda’s presidential election held on January 15, 2026, extending his decades-long grip on power amid widespread allegations of irregularities.
