COTONOU, BENIN – Benin’s government says it has foiled an attempted coup after rogue soldiers claimed to have ousted President Patrice Talon, triggering strong condemnation from West Africa’s regional bloc, ECOWAS.

Interior Minister Alassane Seidou appeared on national television early Sunday to announce that the situation was under control after a short-lived mutiny by a group of soldiers led by Lt-Col Pascal Tigri.
