LAGOS, NIGERIA – A Nigerian court has sentenced separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu to life in prison after convicting him on terrorism charges, a ruling that threatens to inflame long-running tensions in the country’s southeast.

Justice James Omotosho found Kanu, founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), guilty on all seven counts, ruling that his violent rhetoric in online broadcasts “created fear in the minds of the people of the southeast.”
