PORTO-NOVO, BENINBenin is edging closer to an oil-production comeback as Akrake Petroleum, an indirect subsidiary of Rex International Holding, targets a late-January 2026 start at the offshore Sèmè oilfield after months of technical delays.

The operator said production is expected to begin once drilling is completed on the AK-2H well, the key production well targeting the H6 reservoir. Offshore facilities are already in place, including the Stella Energy 1 mobile offshore production unit and the Kristina floating storage vessel, allowing output to start quickly once drilling is finalised.
