Lagos, Nigeria – Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, may pull the messaging app from Nigeria if it fails to pay a $220 million fine imposed by the country’s consumer protection agency. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) conducted a 38-month investigation with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) between 2021 and 2023, revealing multiple abuses and misuse of consumer data by Meta through its WhatsApp platform.
