  • Non-food prices drove Zambia’s first inflation rise in nearly a year
  • Food inflation eased, but fuel and airfares pushed costs higher

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Consumer prices in Zambia rose in December, marking the first inflation increase in nearly a year despite a stronger local currency and easing food costs.

Annual inflation accelerated to 11.2% in December from 10.9% in November, according to figures released by the Zambia Statistics Agency. The uptick reversed a steady downward trend that had persisted since April, following marginal increases early in the year.
