KAMPALA, UGANDAUganda will begin exporting 200,000 tonnes of powdered milk to Nigeria this month in a deal worth $1.02 billion at factory prices.

Uganda’s dairy industry is poised for its biggest external market yet as shipments to Nigeria kick off under a trade arrangement that vaults West Africa’s largest economy into the top spot for Ugandan milk exports. The annual 200,000-tonne supply, valued at more than Shs3.7 trillion ($1.02 billion), makes Nigeria Uganda’s largest single dairy buyer—far ahead of previous lead market Algeria.
